Ralph Calveard(1917-2015)

Perhaps being a mail carrier gave Ralph the fortitude to weave outside in his own tiny Loomhouse behind his home on Mae Avenue here in South Louisville. He certainly created a body of work!

Ralph and his wife Dorothy and son, Sam, often were visitors to the Little Loomhouse. Conversations with Lou Tate about weaving techniques as well as other textile subjects were regular throughout the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. (His gravely voice and big laugh were infectious.)

Although he is no longer with us we have a true picture of his love for weaving. We hope that others may be inspired by his work.  –Sally Moss
